Well, when we all are waiting for iOS 7 untethered jailbreak, news on iOS 6.1.x may not sound very exciting. However, the exploits used by iH8sn0w and wincocm to tame iOS 6.1.x is real and may hold ground for iOS 7 also.
The video posted by iH8sn0w and winocm clearly shows an untethered jailbreak for iOS 6.1.x running on a 5th generation iPod touch. You will notice the theme running in the background is Surenix’s ayecon, which is one of the best Cydia theme you can install.
The video will obviously give hope to millions of iPhone 5S owners stuck with iOS 7 without Cydia and its apps. The iOS 6.1.x jailbreak is clearly not much of significance for most of the iPhone 5S owners. However, it shows that hackers may be silent on progress, but they are indeed working on the exploits.
The announcement accompanying the video says:
Untethered 6.1.3 iPod touch 5
Works for all iDevices running 6.1.3/6.1.4/6.1.5.
The untethered iOS 6.1.x is not coming anytime soon to the general users as some of the exploits used may alert Apple, which can affect the iOS 7 jailbreak progress.
iOS 7 Untethered Jailbreak Update
Those interested in the iOS 7 jailbreak, recently, there was a report that the some of the evad3rs exploits were stolen and sold by an individual to a private party. However, one of the lead members of the evad3rs has denied the report on theft and has confirmed that iOS 7 jailbreak progress is moving in positive direction.
On the other hand, there is this crowd sourcing initiative isios7jailbrokenyet that has managed to collect more than 10 thousand dollars for untethred iOS 7 jailbreak. So, in the meantime we can do nothing but wait, and hope that the jailbreak community can achieve the target in the coming weeks or month.
